Practical Activities

This area of the curriculum is designed to invite the young child to act and work on real-life tasks that foster independence, coordination, order and concentration.

This area is the basis for work in other areas. The Practical Life area contains many objects familiar to the child which are commonly seen outside the school for daily activities: eating, dressing and cleaning.

The materials are designed and presented to teach skills such as: – caring for the environment: sweeping the floor, washing the dishes, caring for the plants etc. – caring for oneself: washing hands, buttoning and lacing shoes etc. – good manners and social skills: greeting guests, setting the table etc.
