By the time the child approaches the Montessori Math’s materials in class it will have developed many needed skills such as calculation which the child naturally develops from a very young age.
As soon as the child brings food from his plate to his mouth, sets the table for a specific number of persons, counts steps climbing the stairs etc. he/she has already begun to calculate.
The sensorial materials are an indirect preparation for the math materials; these materials reinforce skills such as calculation, exactness and order and they help to discriminate and recognize differences and similarities.
Montessori math activities give the child the joy of reasoning and discover by himself/herself the laws of Mathematics.
